How to Add a GPS to Blackberry Maps

March 11th, 2010

BlackBerry handsets come preloaded with the BlackBerry Maps application as the default mapping software for the device. BlackBerry Maps provides adequate functionality to navigate effectively, even though it is more basic than other offerings on the market. BlackBerry Maps used together with the BlackBerry device’s built-in GPS can provide real-time, turn-by-turn directions.

Things You’ll Need:
  • BlackBerry Smart Phone
  • BlackBerry Maps Application

Step 1: Navigate to the BlackBerry’s Options menu. Choose "Advanced Options" then "GPS". From the "GPS Services" field, select "Location On". Return to the main menu.

Step 2: Open the BlackBerry Maps application. From the main menu, scroll to and select "Maps".

Step 3: Enable GPS navigation. Open the BlackBerry Maps menu using the BlackBerry device’s menu key. Scroll to "Start GPS Navigation" option and click using the trackball.

Step 4: Wait for the BlackBerry to acquire GPS tracking satellites. Once the tracking satellites are acquired, BlackBerry Maps can be used to provide turn-by-turn directions.
