BlackBerry PlayBook Now Available for Pre-Orders at Best Buy, Future Shop Stores and Staples!

BlackBerryPlayBook Great News! RIM finally announced the BlackBerry PlayBook’s pricing, launch date as well as the stores for placing pre-orders. The PlayBook will be available in Best Buy, Best Buy Mobile, Best Buy Canada, Future Shop stores and Staples April 19th in the following models and prices:

  • 16GB Wi-Fi, $499
  • 32GB Wi-Fi, $599
  • 64GB Wi-Fi, $699

With this retail strategy, the BlackBerry PlayBook is expected to be available in over 20,000 retail outlets in the US and Canada. The WiFi version will be available in three models and will feature a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) starting at $499 in the United States and Canada. The lineup of retailers and wireless carriers currently expected to carry the BlackBerry PlayBook in the United States and Canada includes the following companies:

BlackBerry 4G PlayBook Landing Page Goes Live on Sprint Website!

Spring Glad to know that the rumored April launch for the BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet finally becomes real. Sprint has put up a landing page for the BlackBerry 4G PlayBook while we all are sitting and waiting for an official release date from RIM. Though it doesn’t give us any solid release date, it does state that the BlackBerry 4G PlayBook will be available this summer and have a “Sign Up Now” link to keep us informed of the latest news. This is the first time that the device has appeared on the carrier website, and it seems that Sprint is now preparing for the release of the 4G PlayBook!

BlackBerry App World Version 2.1.1.2 Now Available!

BB App World BlackBerry App World has been upgraded to version 2.1.1.2. The new version should be available for users to download soon after getting a notification from RIM. Users should be getting a notification to upgrade BlackBerry App World to v2.1.1.2 soon or sometime over the next couple of days.

BlackBerry Traffic Version 2.0 Now Available in BlackBerry Beta Zone

Traffic RIM has rolled out BlackBerry Traffic v2.0, it is now available to download for any member of BlackBerry Beta Zone. If you are interested, you can login and grab the latest in BlackBerry Beta Zone.

Here are some changes made in Beta v2.0:

  • Complete UI Revamp – BlackBerry Traffic v2.0 features new icons, color scheme, 6.0-style theme, and more!
  • Route Selection Screen – There are now two route choices (including ETA and trip distance info for each) available to you as soon as you select a destination.
  • Future Traffic View – A new future traffic view can be accessed by selecting the current time on the route selection screen, or by flipping through the different views when a route is selected.  This view can be used to determine the best departure time based on predicted traffic conditions.
  • Next Maneuver Drive View – The simple view has been revised to display the next maneuver with corresponding turn icon in a large, easily viewable font.
  • Search History – Frequent search terms are now available from a drop down on the search screen.

BlackBerry Messenger Social Platform Now in Beta!

bbm At BlackBerry DEVCON 2010, Research In Motion (RIM) announced the BlackBerry® Messenger (BBM™) Social Platform. Now, the BlackBerry Messenger Social Platform has officially gone into public beta. With this beta release, Java Developers have the ability to accomplish the following:

  • Access and update fields in the user’s profile such as status, avatar and personal message;
  • Create their own custom areas within the user’s profile for promoting recent application activity or storing trophies and achievements;
  • Initiate and embed chats with friends;
  • Initiate application-to-application background communication through BBM for sending and receiving application instructions, such as moves in a game or any other application state changes;
  • Initiate file transfers;
  • The ability to share applications virally with friends in their contact list.

Foursquare for BlackBerry Upgraded to Version 1.9.77

foursquare_blackberry Foursquare for BlackBerry has been updated to version 1.9.77, and it is now available to download at “foursquare.com/blackberry/beta” directly from your device.

Here are some new features added in Foursquare v1.9.77:

  • Now able to add comments to a friend’s checkin.
  • New trophy case view of all of your badges.
  • The ability for users to “Check for updates” straight from the app!
  • Addition of a photo gallery viewer. To enter this view, click on a photo in venues to enlarge photo, then click one more time to enter the gallery view.
  • The friends dashboard now shows if the checkin has comments or photos.
  • Speed improvements for rendering the dashboard screen
  • Fixes to add friends and profile photo upload.
  • Improved data connection for users having issues connecting via https

Twitter for BlackBerry Updated to Version 1.1.0.17 in BlackBerry Beta Zone

Twitter Twitter for BlackBerry has been updated to v1.1.0.17, and it is now available in BlackBerry Beta Zone for all members to download. A lot of bugs have been fixed in this new version.

Here are some of the fixes:

  • Push @mention issues
  • Updates to Geo-tweeting User Interface
  • Errors with posting/opening shortened links
  • Lock icon overlaps the Name in the conversation screen for protected user
  • Conversation Screen font does not change until it is reloaded
  • Notification count includes non-followed users mentions
  • Shortening link not working, original link not getting replaced
  • Twitter is not listed under social feeds application options
  • Delayed/bad char count on conversation message screen on Pearl
  • Additional fixes for those people using the app in French
