First Impression on BlackBerry 7: Great Performance & Better Web Brower

August 9th, 2011

blackberry_7_OSWhen people know that it will release BlackBerry 7, all BlackBerry users are eager to know what the new efforts they will get from BlackBerry7. Actually, regarding BlackBerry 7, the software performance is tweaked and the overall experience is much faster. When you’re browsing the homescreen and switching between screens, the device performs really well. One of the downsides of OS 6 was the lag you experienced when perusing the apps; but this is gone now. BlackBerry 7 also brings with it the new APIs that will help developers make more engaging apps such as Augmented Reality apps. Another major advantage in BlackBerry 7 is the updated web browser. Browsing on a BlackBerry 7 device is much faster and the browser is around 40% better than the browser with BlackBerry 6.

But there are still some major issues we have with the BlackBerry Platform and its user experience that are simply not addressed in the latest OS. For example, the devices still take a much time to boot up and downloading apps still makes your devices nearly unusable.  But what makes us to happy is that new APIs is released for BlackBerry 7. At least it is a good news for developers.

Check out the Global BlackBerry PlayBook Community

August 3rd, 2011

Since recently BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet has been used in a wide variety of industries by a range of various professionals, and more people like to throw a spotlight on one of the more interesting communities involved with the product. Now i also try to search some news.

The following is a conversation between a editor called Luck and John H., a member of the Beta Programs team at Research In Motion® (RIM®). Check out the conversation below!

Hi John, can you give us a quick introduction to what you do at RIM?

Sure, Luke. RIM’s Beta team operates programs for new software through the BlackBerry® Beta Zone. My colleagues and I are members of the beta team and are specifically interested in the BlackBerry® Tablet OS; what people think of it, how they use it, what they’d change, and what they love about it. It is essential to our job to make sure the voice of our customers is represented internally.

So what is the “Global BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet Community”?

The community is open to anyone in BlackBerry Beta Zone and is an open forum for discussions about the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet and the BlackBerry Tablet OS.

How does RIM work with the members?

We’re in the discussion boards every day reading what people are sharing with us. Also, after every new software release, we capture the feedback of users through a survey once they’ve upgraded. Because we develop these devices for our customers, as I mentioned previously, it’s very important to us to have a solid understanding of their needs, thoughts, and requests.

Where does feedback go after it’s provided by the community?

My team is very close to stakeholders and product owners at the company who coordinate the product development process. We then use this information to contribute to building and developing top notch mobile technology. All of the feedback is important to us, and we’re always looking for important trends, which is why it is important for users to weigh in with their thoughts on hot topics in BlackBerry Beta Zone.

How can individuals get involved?

The process is simple – BlackBerry Beta Zone is free and easy to join. After signing up or logging in, they can look for the Global BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet Community in the “Eligible Programs” area as displayed in the image below. They can then hop into the discussion boards and let us know what they think. It’s our promise that posts and opinions are read, and we often respond with our own thoughts and interactions.

From the above questions, it seems that we have learned more information about RIM and the work of members in RIM.

Avatar Builder Guys and Avatar Builder Girls Updated to Version1.0.2

August 2nd, 2011

Recently RIM has updated their free Avatar Builder Guys Edition and Avatar Builder Girls Edition apps to 1.0.2 for BlackBerry smartphones. It is said that the latest version includes support for more countries. Although i am not sure what the new features added to the update, but i have read a short description on this app like this:

"Create and customize an avatar to look just like you or anyone you want BlackBerry App World it to be! Choose your eyes, hair and your go-to outfit. Then throw in a few accessories, such as your earrings or yoga mat. Feel like you need a change? That’s just fine. Edit your avatar anytime to match your mood or style. Have fun with thousands of different looks, right at your fingertips."

When you’re done, save it, share it, set it as your BBM picture then make another one.
If you would like to know more information and want to download it, please kindly visit it on  BlackBerry App World and check it out.

BlackBerry PlayBook Used to Record Soundgarden Concert in Vancouver

August 1st, 2011

Today afternoon, as a my habit, i tried to learn something from some BlackBerry websites. Oops, it is a good luck. I listened the Soundgarden Concert. Although i did not go to the site, but it seems that i have experienced for myself.

Here is another awesome example of the BlackBerry PlayBook’s video recording capabilities. CrackBerry member guyhockey took his PlayBook with him to a recent Soundgarden concert, and used it to record the first two songs of the concert! Not only does the video look great even under challenging lighting conditions, but the audio is pretty awesome as well. Don’t be afraid to watch this one in 1080p and full screen, it looks terrific. Guyhockey previously posted a video taken with his PlayBook on a rollercoaster, which is also pretty cool.
