December 22nd, 2011

appworld highres 300x1262 BlackBerry App World has some hidden features built in Such as Screenshots and Emailing of Change Logs files

So if you have downloaded BlackBerry App World 3.1.0.56 you probably have noticed that it supports usage over WiFi, gifting applications and much more. However there are some hidden features that might be useful to some users.

  • ALT + SSS  – If you open up BlackBerry App World and type those keys in, you’re instantly producing not only a log for BlackBerry App World but a screenshot as well. As show above, you can then email that log fil, screen cap and even fill in some details about what is happening off to RIM. Once closed, all screenshots and log files disappear.
  • ALT + LOGLOG – This key combo generates a new log file. In that log file will be some information about your device such as your locale, App World version, date & time and what wireless carrier and tower you are connected to as well as, your device model and PIN #.

Now again these features aren’t going to be used by everyday users.

BlackBerry App World Updated To Version 3.0.1.20 In BlackBerry Beta Zone

October 17th, 2011

Yesterday RIM has posted a new version of BlackBerry App World in the BlackBerry Beta Zone. The latest beta is at version 3.0.1.20 and includes a bunch of fixes. Here is the list of changes for this update, and please kindly learn the following details:

  • Performance and speed enhancements across all BlackBerry devices
  • Multiple translation/localization errors
  • Multiple instances of UI lag
  • Apps not appearing in “My World” for some users
  • User continuously notified to update the same applications when on the latest version
  • Memory leak occurring and taking up too much device memory
  • Null pointer exception during downloads
  • Escaping out of viewing app description returns user to top of installed/uninstalled list – App World should not go back to the top of list but return to the previously viewed app in the list
  • Error when opening and closing some apps with the error message: “Uncaught Exception;Attempt to delete a field that doesn’t belong to the manager”
  • Unable to upgrade “Try and Buy” app after installing App World 3.0
  • “Out Of Memory Error” when attempting to launch App World
  • No “reinstall” button available for Facebook / BB Bridge / etc in App World after deletion
  • The “Reboot” option is available in the menu of AppWorld 2.1.x.x and it does not show in AppWorld 3.0.0.x

If you download this beta and get stuck on the loading screen, try these temporary fixes:

  • While in App World, hold ALT and type RST.  This will reset the App World cache.  A user has told me that after doing this 3-4 times, App World now works.
  • Uninstall App World and then Reinstall.  This has worked for one user after 2 attempts.

Free Audi Roadside App for BlackBerry Now Available in BlackBerry App World

May 11th, 2011

Audi The free Audi Roadside App has been released with several great features to help users connect directly with Audi and its roadside assistance from their BlackBerry devices. The App leverages the Audi customer’s pre-registered vehicle information, a smartphone’s GPS capabilities and an intuitive interface to ease calls for roadside assistance. It provides an easy solution for Audi owners to make good use of the free roadside assistance services when necessary.

Features include:

  • Vehicle registration – Drivers simply provide their Audi’s vehicle identification number (VIN) and some basic personal information to register the App with their customer information on file. This provides Audi Roadside Services your specific details when you request service, and greatly shortens the time it takes to dispatch service.
  • Audi Roadside Assistance – With a few simple steps, the driver selects the type of service they require (e.g. jump start, fuel delivery, tire change or tow) and the App locates the driver via the smart phone’s GPS capabilities. The assistance request is sent to the Audi Roadside Assistance dispatcher as the call is connected to enable the dispatcher to provide faster service. Once the dispatch is complete, the App captures and conveniently stores the dispatch details, including the name of the roadside provider en route to the customer and estimated time of arrival.
  • Dealer Locator – For convenient access to dealer information, the App allows users to search for dealers nearby or within a given city. The App displays the dealer’s name, location, hours of operation and phone number. With one touch, the user can display nearby dealers on a map or immediately call the dealer. This is particularly helpful when a service appointment is required immediately.
