BlackBerry App World Updated To Version In BlackBerry Beta Zone

October 17th, 2011

Yesterday RIM has posted a new version of BlackBerry App World in the BlackBerry Beta Zone. The latest beta is at version and includes a bunch of fixes. Here is the list of changes for this update, and please kindly learn the following details:

  • Performance and speed enhancements across all BlackBerry devices
  • Multiple translation/localization errors
  • Multiple instances of UI lag
  • Apps not appearing in “My World” for some users
  • User continuously notified to update the same applications when on the latest version
  • Memory leak occurring and taking up too much device memory
  • Null pointer exception during downloads
  • Escaping out of viewing app description returns user to top of installed/uninstalled list – App World should not go back to the top of list but return to the previously viewed app in the list
  • Error when opening and closing some apps with the error message: “Uncaught Exception;Attempt to delete a field that doesn’t belong to the manager”
  • Unable to upgrade “Try and Buy” app after installing App World 3.0
  • “Out Of Memory Error” when attempting to launch App World
  • No “reinstall” button available for Facebook / BB Bridge / etc in App World after deletion
  • The “Reboot” option is available in the menu of AppWorld 2.1.x.x and it does not show in AppWorld 3.0.0.x

If you download this beta and get stuck on the loading screen, try these temporary fixes:

  • While in App World, hold ALT and type RST.  This will reset the App World cache.  A user has told me that after doing this 3-4 times, App World now works.
  • Uninstall App World and then Reinstall.  This has worked for one user after 2 attempts.

February 17th, 2011

The latest version of BlackBerry Messenger is not available for download in the BlackBerry Beta Zone. It seems that there aren’t any big improvements in this new beta version, and if you like, you can have a try.

Here are some fixes included in this new release:

  • If you are running BlackBerry® 6.0, a cursor might not have appeared when you scrolled through previous messages in a chat.
  • If you turned on content protection, when you received a new message, you might have seen a “Content protection is enabled” message.
  • If a person invites you to become a contact during a multi-person chat with you, and if you accepted the request, the contact might not have appeared on your contact list.

BlackBerry App World 2.1 Now Available in BlackBerry Beta Zone

January 7th, 2011

v2.1 Beta BlackBerry App World v2.1 has been released as a beta program in BlackBerry Beta Zone. Though RIM only opens the new version to users in North America and the United Kingdom currently, I believe it will be available to more and more BlackBerry users soon. The new features added in BlackBerry App World 2.1 are as follows:

  • In-app Payments - App World 2.1 includes support for in-app payments. This would be the greatest feature added in version 2.1.
  • Filtered Featured Items - Once users open this latest version of App World, they’ll notice that Featured Items are seemingly more relevant to them. Featured Items are now filtered by carrier and country to ensure that users are presented with the most relevant apps as soon as they open App World.
  • Extended BBID Login Session – With this latest release, a single BBID login session lasts for 20 minutes, making it easier for users to download and install as many apps as they would like in one go. Please remember that during the 20 minute BBID login session, users will not be prompted again for their BlackBerry ID to complete a purchase.  If your BlackBerry gets in the hands of someone else, they could make a purchase that you’re not aware of.
