CardStar App For BlackBerry Smartphones Coming May 1st

March 17th, 2010

blackberry-storm_0 CardStarIts is a very cool little app that lets you store all of your "convenience cards" in one place. Instead of having loads of cards or keytags for the video store, gym, car rental agencies, pet store, library, hotels or supermarkets, you just need the CardStar app on your mobile device. You simply enter your card information, and the bardcode can be displayed right on the screen. No more carting around loads of plastic cards that get lost and worn out. There are loads of retailers in the CardStar database, and you can submit a request for addional retailers if yours isn’t listed in the system.

The CardStar app is listed as coming soon, and a tweet by @mycardstard yesterday stated the app will be hitting BlackBerry on May 1st. Definitely something to look forward to. I’m excited to ditch all those worn out tags on my keychain in favor of this app. For more details, hit up mycardstar.com. Thanks to Ben for sending this in!

All you do is download it, make an account/profile if you’ve never used it before, and sign in.  From then on you’re able to play. Check out the details…

Here is the description in App World:

Foursquare is all about helping you find new ways to explore the city. Earn points and unlock badges for discovering new places, doing new things and meeting new people.

People use foursquare to “check-in”, which is a way of telling us your whereabouts. When you check-in someplace, we’ll tell your friends where they can find you and recommend places to go & things to do nearby. People check-in at all kind of places – cafes, bars, restaurants, parks, homes, offices.

BlackBerry Curve 8530 Arriving In Red To Sprint?

March 7th, 2010

BlackberryCurve8530red_GR Remember the days when you could pick up a BlackBerry Curve and Pearl in just about every color of the rainbow? I certainly do. The crimson red 83xx was a sweet device that I always wanted but never actually bought. Seems like Research In Motion is keeping up this tradition with the Curve series as they have been releasing a multitude of colors for the 85xx devices. This time around rumor has it that we’ll see a red version show up on Sprint at some point. The red color isn’t exactly a new one for the 85xx series though, TELUS in Canada has had it since their intial release but if all pans out we should see it on Sprint any moment now. Sadly, it doesn’t appear to be that sexy crimson red of devices past but rather a different shade of red. Rumor also has it that we’ll see the 9100 show up in a few other colors as well for different carriers with Pink/Black headed to TELUS as it stands.

BlackBerry Pearl 9100 to Feature Full QWERTY Keyboard Option?!

March 4th, 2010

BBPearlQWERTY Lots of confirmation coming in today that the BlackBerry Pearl 9100 will definitely be offered in two versions, both with SureType and with Full Qwerty. Totally awesome!!

Not too sure what to say about this one, but Al Sacco from CIO is reporting that part supplier TrueSupplier has listed a OEM full QWERTY keyboard for the unreleased BlackBerry Pearl 9100. Could it be that RIM is working on a full QWERTY version of the Pearl 9100? I hope so. On the other hand I really hope RIM doesn’t plan on scrapping Suretype out of the 9100, because I’m a fan of it.

So what do you think? Would you grab a Pearl 9100 with a full QWERTY keyboard? or would you prefer a Suretype version?

Viper SmartStart Strikes BlackBerry And Starts Your Car For You

March 2nd, 2010

BlackBerry_SmartStart_App-307x400 Yes, the iPhone has it, and now most BlackBerry smartphones can use a similar app and will be officially released today. Imagine being able from your home or office, to make sure your car is warm in winter or cool in summer before you even step out the door. Directed Electronics has created an app that does just that.

The app was originally introduced to the iPhone in October, and now BlackBerry users can enjoy the same convenience. Unlike keyfobs that most car owners use that have a limited range, Viper SmartStart knows no range. That’s right, it’s unlimited range. And in winter, you can defrost your car and warm your cabin while you get ready to leave. And there’s security too. You can lock and unlock the car from your BlackBerry as well without a key.

ViperSmartStart

BlackBerry users with most security or remote start systems in their car such as Viper, Clifford, and Python can download the free app, have Viper SmartStart professionally installed on their car, then activate the account so they can start using Viper SmartStart.

Depending on what comes with the installation, users can start the vehicle, lock and unlock the doors, enable or disable the security system, pop the trunk, or panic the siren (for finding your car in a crowded place). You will also be alerted via message to your BlackBerry should someone try to break in to your car.
