How to Upgrade Your Device Software Using Wireless Update

BlackBerry_1 Most users know that you can easily update your device software by downloading the OS to a PC and using the Application Loader. With some official OS updates, the option to use the Wireless Update will be under Options > Advanced Options > Wireless Update. When an update is available, a Wireless Update icon will also be pushed to your device homescreen alerting you of the upgrade, and you will be able to download and install the software over the air (OTA) to your device.

How to Check the Battery on a BlackBerry

blackberry-post3 It’s important to know when your battery is dying and when it is full on your BlackBerry. If you tend to use more applications and data on the phone than average, you may need to charge the phone more often. If you barely touch the phone, you may have to charge it less often. It’s always a good idea to have a wall charger, car charger and a USB/mini USB cable in your home, car or travel case just in case the phone needs to be charged in any situation.

Step 1: Press any key to take your BlackBerry out of standby mode.

Step 2: Enter your security password if you created one.

Step 3: View the battery icon on the homescreen.

Step 4: Determine if the battery needs to be charged. If the battery icon is full then the battery life is at its fullest. If it’s empty and glowing red, then it needs to be charged right away.

Check your phone’s battery icon if you notice the LED on the phone is flashing red or amber.

    Reloading the software

Blackberry Curve Vs. Blackberry Storm

A BlackBerry is a wireless mobile device created by the company Research in Motion. BlackBerry devices come in various styles and models, including the BlackBerry Curve and the BlackBerry Storm. These devices vary in their size, features and design, and they are supported by select cell phone service providers.

    Keyboard

    The most noticeable difference between the Curve and Storm lies in the keyboard feature and set up. The Curve offers the standard QWERTY keyboard, similar to those found on computers and typewriters. The Storm is a touchscreen phone with only four buttons on the device. The four buttons on the Storm, which can also be found on the Curve, are the "Call," "End Call," "Options" and "Return" keys. These keys are the most used on such devices.

Viuvision is a mobile phone website that provides free and easy access to various TV programs from your BlackBerry, with only a few steps.

Instructions:

Step 1: Click on the icon that looks like the earth; it’s located on your BlackBerry’s desktop.

Step 2: Type "www.viuvision.com," into the BlackBerry’s browser.

Step 3: Agree to the terms, then click on the TV Icon that you wish to watch and wait about 30 seconds for it to load. The low-bandwidth options include "Cartoons," "C-Span," "BroBible" "Classic Movies," and "Classic Martial Arts." The medium bandwidth option offers a few more channels: "Medical" and "NASA."

How to Use the BlackBerry 8830 GPS

Global positioning software (GPS) allows you to pinpoint your location. Although there’s no GPS program on the BlackBerry, many BlackBerry applications use GPS to find your location and give you directions, determine what other locations are near you and give you the current weather conditions. The BlackBerry 8830 comes with GPS capabilities, but you may need to enable them before your BlackBerry’s applications can use them.

Step 1: Power up your BlackBerry 8830. Wait for it to finish its boot cycle and show the home screen.

Step 2: Press the menu key to open the list of available applications. Click "Options." Click "Advanced Options" from the list in the Options menu.

Step 3: Open the GPS menu. Change the GPS Services field to "Location ON." Press the menu key. Click "Save."

How to Retrieve Voice Mails From Blackberry 8800

If you miss a call on your BlackBerry 8800 phone, you need to view who the call was from and check if the person left you a voicemail. BlackBerry smartphones make recognizing you have a voicemail easy with an alert and an icon on the homescreen, and since the 8800 is part of Cingular (now AT&T), it has a fast retrieval system so you can quickly listen to your messages.

Step 1: View the homescreen of your phone. If there is a cassette tape icon at the top of the screen it means you have a new voicemail.

How to Tether Your BlackBerry to Laptop with Verizon

You can use some smart phones to connect your laptop or desktop computer to the Internet. BlackBerry smart phones are capable of this and, with a Verizon account, tethering a laptop with a BlackBerry is quick and simple. Be sure beforehand that your particular Verizon plan allows for tethering.

Step 1: Connect your BlackBerry smart phone to your computer with the USB cable that comes packaged with your phone.

Step 2: Open your BlackBerry Desktop Manager software and click the IP Modem icon in the main menu. If you do not have this software, install it from the BlackBerry support site; it includes the drivers needed to recognize your phone as a modem.

Step 3: Click the "Configure" button, then pick the "Set-Up Option" from the drop-down list labeled "Connection profile."

Step 4: Select "Verizon" from the list of service providers and click "OK."

How to Add a GPS to Blackberry Maps

BlackBerry handsets come preloaded with the BlackBerry Maps application as the default mapping software for the device. BlackBerry Maps provides adequate functionality to navigate effectively, even though it is more basic than other offerings on the market. BlackBerry Maps used together with the BlackBerry device’s built-in GPS can provide real-time, turn-by-turn directions.

Things You’ll Need:
  • BlackBerry Smart Phone
  • BlackBerry Maps Application

Step 1: Navigate to the BlackBerry’s Options menu. Choose "Advanced Options" then "GPS". From the "GPS Services" field, select "Location On". Return to the main menu.

Step 2: Open the BlackBerry Maps application. From the main menu, scroll to and select "Maps".

Step 3: Enable GPS navigation. Open the BlackBerry Maps menu using the BlackBerry device’s menu key. Scroll to "Start GPS Navigation" option and click using the trackball.

Step 4: Wait for the BlackBerry to acquire GPS tracking satellites. Once the tracking satellites are acquired, BlackBerry Maps can be used to provide turn-by-turn directions.
